Yamaguchi Prefecture ALT Positions


INTERAC Co., Ltd. Hiroshima is accepting applications from candidates interested in working as an Assistant Language Teacher in Yamaguchi Prefecture starting in September 2010.

The position is full-time, with a fixed schedule Monday through Friday. Successful applicants will be teaching at a combination of Junior High Schools and Elementary Schools.

INTERAC offers a comprehensive initial orientation together with ongoing training at regular intervals throughout the year. INTERAC also provides teaching resources through its training website that includes lesson plans and flashcards. INTERAC has an extensive support network with local English-speaking Japanese staff and experienced ALTs ready to assist teachers.

Applicants should possess a BA/BS (or equivalent) degree from a university, MUST hold a valid work visa for Japan, be a native speaker of English, and have previous teaching experience.

Rampage suspect said he topped Akihabara


The former temporary worker at Mazda Motor Corp. arrested last week for killing one of the company’s employees and injuring 11 others by hitting them with a car at the firm’s Hiroshima plant complex, boasted of outdoing the 2008 massacre in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, a friend said. The friend said Toshiaki Hikiji, 42, of the city of Hiroshima, called immediately before he was taken into custody after the June 22 attack. (Japan Times)

Mazda attacker Akihabara wannabe?


A former Mazda Motor Corp. temporary worker arrested for killing one Mazda employee and injuring 10 others by hitting them with a car told investigators he tried to copy the 2008 murder spree in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, investigative sources said Wednesday.
Toshiaki Hikiji, 42, of the city of Hiroshima, was quoted as telling investigators he had planned to park his car inside the Mazda plant complex and attack people with a kitchen knife. He was arrested after running into the 11 as they headed to work Tuesday.

English Teacher for Life Skills program in Hiroshima


JIEC is looking for a qualified teacher to join a unique program at a private boys high school in Hiroshima. Using English as the medium, this program teaches students “life skills” through a hands-on approach to topics such as orienteering, international sport, animation, flight design, alternative energy etc.
The successful teacher will be an experienced and passionate educator who is hard working, energetic and has a proven track record for inspiring students.
The position is Monday to Friday with Saturday classes twice a month. The basic work day is 8:15am to 5:00pm.
Visa sponsorship and accommodation are available.
The start date is set for anytime between June and August.
