Borderlink is currently accepting applications for those who would like to work as an assistant language teacher of English at public schools in the Northern Saitama area. We are currently only interviewing applicants living in Japan with a valid work visa (applicants in Japan on a tourist visa will unfortunately not be interviewed). Requirements for these positions are as follows:
1. Native speaker of English
2. University graduate (BA/BS)
3. Intermediate Japanese or better
4. Prior ALT experience in Japan
5. Valid working visa (Spouse, instructor, permanent or specialist in humanities)
6. Outgoing personality, and must like working with children
7. Be living in the area or be willing and financially able to relocate.
A brief description of the position as well as the requirements for the position follows:
ALT stands for Assistant Language Teacher. ALTs assist Japanese teachers of English teachers at public junior high schools, and also work with teachers at elementary schools. An ALT does things such as helping with pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary in English class. Another large part of the ALT position is motivating both students and teachers to both use and want to improve their English ability. Furthermore, ALTs are encouraged to not only attend English classes, but also to be involved in activities such as eating lunch with students, participating in school club activities, festivals, etc. The aim of the ALT should be to provide the students, and in some cases the teachers, with opportunities to deepen their understanding of different cultures though their interactions and classes.
We offer ALTs a variety of services so that they can get the most out of their experience with Borderlink. It is important, however, to learn Japanese in addition to as much about the Japanese culture as possible, as this will make it easier for the ALTs to adjust to school and be better teachers. We wish to be pioneers in the internationalization of Japan and wish to help and support foreigners working in Japan.
Here at Borderlink we wish to be the bridge between borders.
Borderlink seeks highly professional English teachers who have passed the graduate or undergraduate level. Candidates with prior experience and an intermediate or above Japanese ability are preferred. Applicants who do not have prior experience teaching are also welcome to apply, as we will aid in the transition into the ALT role and will help you make use of your talents. This position requires that you be outgoing and not shy in front of groups of 36 or more students, and that you like working with children. A TESOL certificate is not necessary for employment, but favorable. A Japanese driver’s license is also favorable.
Benefits of working for Borderlink:
1. Borderlink provides visa sponsorship
2. Salaries are based on experience, performance and education
3. Borderlink can assist with housing arrangements
4. Those who qualify have the chance to be introduced to Japanese companies for employment
5. Possibility of promotion from within for qualified ALTs.
6. Emergency translating and interpreting for ALTs. No cost involved.
7. Area managers acting as liaisons between the company and ALT keeping regular contact.
