Editor/Test-content Specialist


DESCRIPTION: The Society for Testing English Proficiency (STEP), which produces the EIKEN English proficiency tests taken by over 2.3 million test takers annually, seeks a committed individual to work full-time in the test development and editing section. The position will deal mainly with tests aimed at junior-high school students and young learners (elementary school age and younger).

WORKING HOURS: The position is full-time and working hours are from 9:30 to 5:30, Monday to Friday (some weekend work and overtime is also required). Employment is on a one-year contract basis, with the possibility of renewal upon agreement by both parties.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will work with a committed team of professionals to develop and edit test items mainly for the lower grades of the EIKEN tests and also for tests aimed at young learners. You will be working as part of a team of committed and professional editors of various nationalities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be native English speakers with experience teaching at junior high schools and/or high schools in Japan. Experience teaching young learners (elementary school age and younger), developing tests and educational materials and assessing English proficiency preferred. Successful applicants will have excellent writing and proofreading skills. Applicants must have a university degree. Qualifications in ELT/TESOL, etc., and/or teaching qualifications in other content areas from your home country an advantage. Strong Japanese ability required. Applicants must possess a valid working visa and should be already based in the Tokyo area and able to commute to the STEP office.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary in accordance with STEP regulations. Two annual bonuses and other benefits. Paid annual vacation leave, overtime pay, and commuting allowance.

Notes:
Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview and take a writing and proofreading test. The interview will consist of two sections: one conducted in Japanese and the other in English. Candidates may then be asked to attend a second interview.
